2014 WINTER EDITION NEWSLETTER

DicksonThank you to everyone who contributed to our Readers Matter campaign and our end-of-year giving campaign. Your support directly helps teachers learn effective teaching strategies for students with dyslexia, and helps NCBIDA to increase awareness of dyslexia through our workshops and our Experience Dyslexia® simulation.

As we launch into 2014, we are looking forward to our winter event on February 1st with Suzanne Carreker and Blake Charlton. Suzanne’s talk, entitled Reading Between, Among, and Beyond the Lines, will highlight how both decoding and language comprehension are necessary for critical reading. Blake Charlton, a novelist and medical resident who is also dyslexic, will talk about the importance of literature and imagination for students with dyslexia. Finally, I’d like to wish all of you a very happy New Year. NCBIDA appreciates all that you do to help people with dyslexia. Teachers, parents, friends, and family—all of you touch the lives of people with dyslexia in meaningful ways. We want to highlight your stories this year on our website in an effort to create a closer community that will help others find confidence, hope, and support. I hope you will join me and contribute to Share Your Story. Your story may make a big difference for someone in our online community.

Sincerely,
Frances Dickson
