2014 WINTER EDITION NEWSLETTER

A big thank you to the dedicated readers and donors who supported our Readers Matter online fundraising campaign. Your efforts raised $6,775 to support NCBIDA programs, including scholarships for teachers who take advanced training in reading instruction. Giving teachers the tools they need to work effectively with struggling readers is a key part of NCBIDA’s mission. In 2013, partial tuition scholarships were awarded to three teachers who enrolled in approved summer courses. Today those teachers are using the skills they learned in the classroom to improve the educational experience for all their students.

“We chose ‘Readers Matter—Let’s Make More of Them’ as our fundraiser’s theme because reading is such an essential skill in today’s world,” said NCBIDA president Frances Dickson.  Participants had the option of creating their personal fundraising page on the Readers Matter website and soliciting donations, or simply donating to  someone else’s page.  Some people highlighted their own reading journey on their pages, while others wrote about the great need for support for those who struggle with literacy skills.

Although the 2013 Readers Matter campaign is now over, NCBIDA welcomes donations at any time of the year. Visit our website for more information.
