NCBIDA Offers Teacher Training Scholarships

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

IDA Northern California is pleased to once again offer partial scholarships for training in structured literacy approaches (also known as multisensory structured language education—MSLE). Scholarships are awarded for up to 50 percent of the full cost of the training (including books and supplies).

Scholarships are only awarded for training programs that are accredited by IDA. For more information visit their website. In addition, training courses must contain a practicum that gives trainees the opportunity to apply what they are learning during the program. This practicum can be in-person or completed remotely via video.

When awarding scholarships, we are looking for the “multiplier effect.” That is, we strive to fund structured literacy education for those teachers who will reach the most students over the length of their career. For this reason, first priority for scholarships will be given to classroom teachers, especially those working with children in grades k-2. However, educational therapists and other professionals are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must apply no less than 30 days before the training program’s enrollment deadline.

If awarded a scholarship, the recipient will be notified of the exact amount of the scholarship. The recipient will be responsible to pay their share of the tuition to the director of the training program. Upon confirmation of enrollment, NCBIDA will pay directly to the director of the training program the amount of the recipient’s scholarship.

Please be aware that there are two separate processes:

  • Applying for and enrolling in an eligible teacher-training program
  • Applying for a scholarship from IDA Northern California to help defray the cost of the training.
