IDA NorCal will hold its Annual New Year’s Brunch for members on Saturday, January 27 in San Francisco. Members, please check your email for your invitation. This year’s event will honor two individuals who have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of students with dyslexia. Please join us in celebrating their work!

Fumiko Hoeft, MD, PhD, is a UCSF Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Laboratory for Educational NeuroScience (brainLENS). She is an expert in dyslexia and other learning disabilities and has special interests in many topics important to education such as creativity, motivation, resiliency, and stereotype threat. Her methodological expertise is in applying the latest mathematical algorithms to neuroimaging.

Kathy Futterman, EdD, has worked in the field of special education for over 22 years, primarily with students with language-based learning issues in the areas of reading, writing, and spelling.  She has worked in a variety of settings including private clinics, public and private schools, and at the university level. Kathy is a lecturer and fieldwork supervisor at CSU-East Bay in the Departments of Educational Psychology and Teacher Education. She also serves as an educational consultant at Decoding Dyslexia California and has a private educational therapy practice in Contra Costa County.
