Teacher training information for 2020 is updated as information becomes available. Trainings will be removed from this page as they are completed. AOGPE Classroom Educator & Associate Level Training
*This training is eligible for a teacher scholarship

This course introduces individuals to the principles of the Orton-Gillingham approach, and provides the knowledge base for individuals to use OG in a variety of settings. Topics include nature and needs of the dyslexic learner, principles of structured literacy, beginning through advanced phonics, history of the English language, and teaching morphology.  Participants will have the chance to write lesson plans and practice implementation.

The course covers the AOGPE curriculum for Classroom Educator Level (40 hours) for teachers employed at a school, or Associates Level (61 hours) for people desiring to do individual tutoring. It does not include the optional practicum which is required for Academy membership. The practicum can be arranged on request after the coursework is completed.

2020 Slingerland Multisensory Structured Language Training Courses (Structured Literacy Instruction)
(*Eligible for 
Teacher Training Scholarships)

An International Dyslexia Association AccreditationPlus training program.  Course is aligned with the CA Dyslexia guidelines.

Multisensory [Multimodal] structured language (Structured Literacy) instructional techniques for speaking, listening, vocabulary, reading decoding, reading comprehension, spelling, handwriting, and written expression.

Daily demonstration of teaching approach by a master teacher with a group of children in a classroom setting including daily practicum opportunity for teacher participants to utilize newly-learned multisensory (multimodal) structured language strategies while working with one or two students each day in supervised one-hour sessions.

Orientation and overview of screening, testing, and evaluation techniques for initial identification as well as assessment of student progress

Daily writing of lesson plans with written feedback from master teachers that can be used for later reference.

Discussion and examples for use of the approach with students in various educational settings: classroom, small group, individual, educational therapy, or academic language therapy.
