It is heartening to see more schools and districts adopting science-based curriculum and instruction as we continue to champion the IDA goal: “Until Everyone Can Read.” IDA NorCal works to support this movement in every way it can. See the story in this issue for an example of two San Francisco Unified public schools where teachers have advocated for structured literacy training to improve outcomes for their students. IDA NorCal’s teacher training scholarship program and the school parent association helped defray the costs of these trainings.

Now that the pandemic is waning and we are coming back to in-person events, our Experience Dyslexia Simulation is often requested by schools and organizations.  If you are interested in supporting our branch efforts by volunteering at one of the simulations, please contact us for information; a small stipend is offered to volunteers.  Our branch is also scheduling several in-person and virtual events for this fall and winter. Details are available below and will be regularly updated on our website.  Other educational options include the California Dyslexia Initiative Expert Webinar Series, which continues in 2022-23 with a focus on understanding dyslexia within an MTSS framework.

Finally, the IDA national conference in San Antonio, Texas is coming up November 10-12 with in-person and virtual attendance options; check out the exciting speakers and exhibits here.
